It’s is going really well, with have advisers and volunteers on hand to help with CVs, job searching online and finding job information.

Stephen, who has been volunteering for a couple of years at westonworks, and Desislava (Daisy) who has just started volunteering can help you set up an e-mail account, download files from the Internet and Job Search. Back to work and Careers Advisers are also on hand to help.

Daisy said “We can help people filling in forms and guide them on how to apply for jobs online, which they find really useful as not everyone has computer skills”.

Stephen added “That’s also why we also run a computer course aimed at people who want to use a computer and gain confidence to apply for jobs”

We also offer a variety of other courses that can help you get to where you want to be, including a confidence building course which is a great opportunity to meet others and gain self belief.

There are 3 computers to use for job search and practicing for the CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Health and Safety test, and when you feel confident to take the real test online.

Work club members also support each other helping each other with job hunting, by sharing details of the jobs they have spotted.

about.

Westonworks refurbishment
Westonworks is joining forces with NSHousing and Credit Union to provide
our services in a new, integrated way. As part of the building refurbishment,
westonworks will be closed between 18 July and 19 August. Reopening on
22 August as the new service called The Information Station.

During this time we will be based at the Healthy Living Centre (HLC), across the
road from westonworks and will be providing a reduced service.

You be able to:
• Register with us and make an appointment to meet with an advisers
• Come to computer training on Mondays at Bournville Primary School

You will not be able to;
• Take a CSCS test
• Have computer access – but this is available in the Healthy Living Centre
Library
• Have access to the job vacancies board or other resources

Alternative Arrangements during this time
• If you need help with finding a job, writing a CV or Career direction contact us

On Thursday 2 June, Stephen Schofield, one of westonworks’ volunteers received a Volunteer of the Year Certificate after being nominated for the award.  Stephen has been with westonworks for over a year, running the reception desk one day a week and not missed a week since he started with us; he is a real credit to westonworks and the community – well done Stephen.

The nomination was a tough decision, as westonworks has a number of volunteers, all who significantly help with running the services, without them we’d be lost, so I also want to say a BIG THANK YOU, to Sam Leasmith, Yang Yang, Howard Chambers and Kerry Thompson – Adrian Stone, westonworks Manager.

Recruitment is now underway for over 35,000 temporary part time and full time vacancies to . . . → Read More: Census 2011 jobs available to apply for now!]]> As you may be aware, the 2011 Census is fast approaching. The census provides information to help government make key decisions that will affect public services. Run in England and Wales every ten years, the next one takes place on 27 March 2011.

Recruitment is now underway for over 35,000 temporary part time and full time vacancies to help make the census a success. It’s vital that every area is properly represented and we are looking for your support to make this happen.

We would really appreciate the help of South Ward Neighbourhood Management Team in recruiting local people by spreading the word about the vacancies and directing people to our dedicated recruitment site: www.censusjobs.co.uk

Recruitment for the following roles will take place this year, with more vacancies becoming available next year:

•  Census Coordinators: lead and motivate a team of up to 15 field staff (recruitment started from 20 September 2010)
•  Special Enumerators: deliver questionnaires to organisations such as care homes, hotels, prisons etc and collect completed forms (recruitment starts from 04 October 2010)
•  Census Collectors: contact householders to collect completed census questionnaires and assist where required (recruitment starts from 01 November 2010)

The roles would be ideal for retired or semi-retired staff, returners to work, students or anyone looking for a short term income boost.
